Text follows.

If the GP considers it advisable to refer you to a specialist, he will make a referral letter for that purpose in consultation with you. This will usually contain the following information:

  • Your personal data.
  • Description of the problem.
  • Description of examination that may have already been performed by the GP.
  • Relevant medical information from your file.
  • Targeted questioning of specialist.

Your referral letter will be sent to the specialist electronically. You will receive a unique code and additional information about your referral by e-mail and/or on paper from your GP.

GPs regularly receive requests for medical certificates. For example, regarding sick leave during school or work hours or in connection with an insurance claim.

It was agreed by the national advisory body of general practitioners KNMG - Royal Dutch Society for the Promotion of Medicine - several years ago NOT to issue such a statement anymore.

However, we can provide you with a copy of the part of your file relevant to your purpose. You may do what you wish with this copy. If there are any problems, please discuss them with the GP or doctor's assistant.

More information on this topic can be found on the website of the national doctors' federation KNMG.

Advice via GGD

Our GP practice does not advise on what vaccinations you need when you go on holiday. We refer you to GGD-Fryslân.

Giving vaccination

However, we can order some vaccines for you and the assistant can give you the vaccination. The vaccinations listed below can be given at the GP practice:

  • Tetanus
  • Hepatitis A
  • Hepatitis B
  • DTP (Diphtheria, Tetanus, Polio)

Please make timely an appointment if you need to be vaccinated! Some vaccinations must be administered well before departure.

Cost of vaccination

The costs of the vaccine (pharmacy) and vaccination (GP) are not covered by GP care and are for your own account. Depending on your health insurance cover, you will be reimbursed (in part). You must then submit the bills to your insurer yourself.

More on traveller vaccination

All GPs in the Netherlands charge the same rates. The Dutch Healthcare Authority (NZa) has set these GP rates. They are maximum rates, so a GP may never exceed them. The rates are often sent directly to your health insurer. So, in principle, you never have to deal with them. You can find the rates in the online ‘my environment’ of your health insurer.

If you are insured abroad, we apply different rates. The assistant can inform you about this.

You can arrange this in two ways: via the ‘patient environment’ on our website or with the ‘My GP Online’ app.

File access

Your GP puts all the information about your health into a computer. This is called a medical file. For example, the GP puts in what diseases you have, what tests and treatments you have had and what medicines you are taking. This way, your medical information is all together.

Data exchange

How does the National Switch Point work?

Your (GP) doctor and pharmacies can connect their computers to the National Switch Point (LSP). Through the LSP, they can share your most important medical data. Another healthcare provider can view those medical details. The video below briefly explains how the LSP works when you come to the GP surgery.
